Secure Server Questions

How do I implement secure transactions using a shared (aNet) certificate?

To make a page secure, use the following link:

https://ssl3.anet.net/yourdomainname.com/1234.html

"ssl3.anet.net" changes depending on which server your site is hosted. Please contact support so they can set-up the SSL for you and give you the exact secure URL for your website.

What is SSL and how much does it cost?

SSL is an added feature. aNet offers a secure socket layer (SSL), frequently referred to as encryption. This allows a browser to communicate with your virtual server in a secure SSL encrypted session. It is often used to transfer credit card numbers and other sensitive information securely.

You can use aNet's shared SSL at no additional charges. You can also purchase your own SSL certificate at for about $150 a year. aNet will charge $100 to set-up your certificate for your website.

How long does it take to setup SSL encryption?

SSL can be added to the server the same day it is ordered. Until a new digital certificate is ordered aNet's certificate will be used as a default certificate. A message may appear on a client's machine warning that the certificate does not match the website's URL. Technically, if you do not mind the warning message you will not need to purchase a new certificate.

What information do I need to set up encryption?

To add encryption aNet only needs to know the DNS name associated with the virtual server. You will need to provide Verisign with additional documentation for ordering the digital certificate.

What does a digital certificate do?

A server uses a digital certificate to prove its authenticity. The digital certificate establishes a legal relationship between a legitimate company and their website.

What information will I need to provide to Verisign to get a certificate?

To purchase a certificate you must provide us a signed copy of either a business license or articles of incorporation. The cost for a certificate is about $150 for the first year and $120 for each year thereafter.

How do I order a digital certificate?

You can order a digital certificate by calling aNet.

How do I activate SSL?

To activate SSL simply change the URL to read "https" instead of "http."
